Who we are
PURE Academy was founded in 1996 as a bridge between education and basketball. Started
by PE teacher turned elementary principal Dave Meyer and College Basketball Coach John VanDyke.
With their passion for basketball, they would bring camps to kids in their own community throughout the summer to ensure kids
had an opportunity for growth while school was out of session. When their own family and
careers took the forefront, PURE was put on pause.
Now, we are reviving the mission within the new age of competition.
PURE stands for Playing with Understanding Respect and Excellence. Prioritizing the
purpose behind the training. Taking the βMEβ out of team. The level of basketball that is
required to be successful in the current climate is high. At PURE the goal is to produce the
best skilled basketball players without losing sight of the impact on the individual off the
court.
Competing at a high level teaches dedication and resilience extending far beyond the court.
At PURE we believe the most well-rounded athletes have sportsmanship that carries with
them years after the training ends. Playing with understanding, growing basketball
knowledge. Respect for themselves, coaches, opponents, teammates and officials.
Excellence within their skills on the court.
